May turned out to be a really excellent month reading-wise. Somehow I had plenty of time to read (up until the last week) and had a great time exploring some new authors! I slowed down quite a bit on writing reviews, though, which means some of the future ones are going to be a bit… fuzzy. Sorry in advance.
Books Read (with links to my reviews):
This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Simply from Scratch by Alicia Bessette
Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty
Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt (link is to goodreads; review coming soon)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (BHA pick of the month)
Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (link is to goodreads; review coming soon)
In the Works: I am looking at my calendar and to-do list right now and feeling a bit overwhelmed. There is SO SO SO much on my plate this month and it will probably mean a real slow down in my reading time. I’m nearly finished with both my current book, The Flight of Gemma Hardy and my current audiobook, Please Ignore Vera Dietz. I am going to start Insurgent next and have a few romances checked out from the library that I hope to get to after that. I started the audiobook of White Cat while on one of my road trips, but got a little lost, so I think I’ll try to get back into that as my next audiobook. There are some great read alongs going on this month (Outlander and of course, BHA’s reading of Ender’s Game), but I’m probably going to have to sit both out despite the fact I want to read both books quite badly. Major sad face. I’m doing my best to keep up with the posting, but if I go MIA, have no fear… I’m just busy with my real job!
What are you looking forward to, reading- and blogging-wise, this summer?
You read a lot of contemps this month! Planning on reading Charmed Thirds anytime soon? I just started it yesterday, although with this being the last week of school, it’ll probably take me a while to finish.
I read your review of This Lullaby (which I must have missed earlier). That one tends to be my fave of Dessen’s although The Truth about Forever is quite excellent. Have you read that one?
I have Charmed Thirds sitting at home and probably will try to start it after Insurgent. I’m going so slowly through books lately as things have been pretty much non-stop in my life (I know you understand this!) Hopefully things will chill out a little once June is over.
I haven’t read The Truth about Forever, but we’ll see… I’m a little hesitant to try out more Dessen, although I know she’s the master of the contemp.
I just picked up Ender’s Game b/c it was a bookclub pick…plus a not-exactly-literal ton of other books for pleasure and /or review. Looking forward to most: Books 5, & 6 of Jill Shalvis’ Lycky Harbor series (I am reading #4 now). ~dixie
I’ve got a couple authors you recommended on my library pile– another one of the Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson. Hope you enjoy your serious and not-so-serious reads!
I bought the latest Rachel Gibson, too…might have to make it review worthy to read it will all the other books I have waiting to be read.
