It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
I was on a roll in January, liking nearly everything I picked up. This month… not so much. So frustrating! Especially when by TBR list is so long and nothing on it looks appealing!
I am currently listening to (and nearly finished with!) John Green’sLooking for Alaska on audiobook. I seem to be on a YA kick lately, which has reminded me that good YA books deal with BIG issues in a BIG way. It is sort of refreshing to see life’s big issues tackled in such a frank manner. And John Green’s characters are awesome. I really wish I had checked this out as a regular book because I would have finished it in two days instead of two weeks!
I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get into Jeffrey Eugenides’s alleged masterpiece, Middlesex. I thought I would love this book, as I usually love anything about gender issues, but I cannot get into this book. I haven’t decided whether I want to keep pressing on or relegate it to the DNF file yet, though. I have heard so many good things about this book and feel like I should be able to stomach a little incest in the name of good literature. But then I get annoyed that the omniscient narrator is a first-person narrator and I really cannot stomach the brother-sister incest. We’ll see. I don’t know if I will pick this one up again or not.
I also pulled A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick off my TBR pile this morning, intending to read it at lunch. But I spent my lunch hour in the blogosphere instead. Since I am planning on hitting the library tonight, this book might just end up right back on top of the TBR pile.
